O’shaquie “Ice Water” Foster has come a long way from prospect to disappointment to incarcerated all the way back to prospect, and now a prospect on the verge of much, much bigger and better things and perhaps a world title shot in 2021. In 2017 Foster was sitting in the Orange County, Texas jail watching boxing wondering if he would get another chance to resume his once-promising career. Foster once a promising young upstart that burst onto the professional scene in 2012, after being an alternate on the Olympic team, running off eight straight victories to start his career and finally getting a big chance on Showtime one that he would come up just short in against Samuel Teah. bouncing back he scored two more impressive victories including stopping Lavisas Wiliams, setting up his next big opportunity. An opportunity he would again come up just short in. This time in a very controversial split decision loss to Rolando Chinea. The second loss of a now-stalled career that was about to get worse. Foster’s career hit a bigger bump in the road when he was sent to an Orange County Jail in Texas. However, it was while in jail that “Ice Water” recommitted himself to his craft and came out of jail on a mission. To be a world champion. The Texan is well on his way to accomplishing that goal. Foster finally scored the big win he needed when he destroyed former world title challenger Miguel “Mickey” Roman over nine one-sided rounds on his way to a TKO victory on the main event of the primer of NBC’s Ring City series. Foster, with his 8th straight win, has put himself in the thick of the talent-loaded 130-pound division captures both the WBC Silver Super Featherweight world title and our fighter of the week award. He adds the best name on his resume and puts himself in a position to secure a big-money fight and possibly a world title fight in 2021.

Foster was focused in from the beginning. and distractions were not going to get in the way of “ice Water” Long time trainer Bobby Benton found a lack of padding in the gloves selected by Roman for the bout. The issue was immediately brought to the attention of the California State Athletic Commission the issue was solved and new gloves were given to Roman. The incident had no effect on the Texan who immediately dropped his man in the first round with a single right hand halfway through the opening round. Foster never looked back dominating the bout from the outside and got the best of the rugged Mexican on the inside. Foster decided not to leave the outcome in the hands of the judges and in the ninth when he put Roman back on the canvas for a second time, this time courtesy of a left hand. Foster went for the kill and started to rip off violent f power shots that pinned Roman against the ropes that brought referee Jack Reiss in to save Roman and waive the but off giving the Texas native the ninth round TKO and moving his record 18-2 (11)

Foster destroyed Roman beating him up over nine lopsided rounds. The exact same amount of rounds it took WBC world champ Miguel Berchelt to stop Roman back in November of 2018. So it’s not unreasonable to suggest that Foster is ready for Berchelt or any of the world champs at 130. Foster signed a promotional deal in 2019 with hall of famer Lou DiBella who has worked with the other major promoters to secure his fighter’s big fights. The big fights are out there to be made, Jamel Herring, Shakur Stevenson both hold belts in the weight class and would be interesting style matchups. As is Oscar Valdez and Miguel Berchelt. If a world title fight is not next for the 27-year old. Being promoted by Lou Dibella’s also gives him a seamless route to a Tevin Farmer fight. Joe Cordina and Xavier Martinez are two other young blue-chip prospects in the division who would make for interesting scraps with Foster. Regardless of who is next for the resilient Texan, he is not far off from a world title he has totally redeemed and rejuvenated his career and has fought himself back into relevancy in 2020
